With Fisichella’s win, there were reports of how there was no reason for India to rejoice considering the fact that apart from Dr. Mallya there was nothing Indian about it. And then there’s the Sports Minister’s comment of Formula 1 not being a sport.
So I ask you, with this being the sports ministry’s take on Formula 1, are we ever going to see an INDIAN in a Formula One car? I think not. However, F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone has gone on to say that India will see its very own F1 circuit in 2011. It would be a sight would it not, for India to have a circuit of its own but no driver!
In his latest concepts of having 30 race circuits, Bernie Ecclestone is said to be giving importance to any track ready to pay $30,000,000 in sanctioning fees. Meaning any track can be replaced by those willing to pay! There are some concerns with the fact that the new tracks don’t have as much character as the old ones like Silverstone and Spa. However new tracks have more than their fair share of excitement going by the excitement generated about the track in Singapore. So there is some gain and some loss. And for us Indians it will be nice to be known for a sport other than cricket!
Now, for news that could get you to smile, Fisichella has said that he is concentrating on racing in Monza for Force India. Phew! It is about time we heard news like that don’t you think?
Narian Karthikeyan has already raced in F1 for Jaguar. That was a couple of years ago. Plus Karun Chandok is believed to be part of the Force India team. So, there have been Indians in F1 but not in India 🙂

What about Narain Karthikeyan?
To Theo and Vince. Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok have done quite a bit for Indian racing. What the post says is that when the sports minister has such A view on F1 racing, will we ever see more racers getting the support they need? I mean it still is evident is it not that in the present season the only Indian in the spotlight is Dr. Vijay Mallya? And he rightly deserves it, but can you imagine ehat it would be like to be cheering for an Indian racer?
